Steps Beach (Tres Palmas Marine Reserve), Rincón

The name comes from a random set of steps on the beach — nobody seems to remember who built them or why. That's the whole story, and it's enough. Steps Beach, in Rincón, draws snorkelers for the coral reef offshore, home to turtles and varieties of fish and marine life. Rincón itself is the center of Puerto Rico's surf scene, a town that rose to international recognition when it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship. The reef is the reason to get in the water here.
