Delta Music Museum

Three cousins grew up within blocks of each other in Ferriday, a small Concordia Parish town that produced an improbable concentration of American music: Jerry Lee Lewis in rock and roll, Mickey Gilley in country, Jimmy Swaggart in gospel. The Delta Music Museum, operated by the Louisiana Secretary of State, documents what happened when bluegrass, gospel, blues, and rockabilly collided in Northeast Louisiana. International visitors travel specifically to see it — including groups from Scandinavia who make the pilgrimage to this stretch of Louisiana Avenue to understand how three boys from the same neighborhood bent the shape of American sound in three different directions. The museum sits in the Ferriday Downtown Entertainment District. Open Wednesday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. 218 Louisiana Avenue.
