Rebirth Brass Band Home Neighborhood

The Rebirth Brass Band formed in 1983 when a group of teenagers from the Tremé decided to fuse traditional New Orleans brass band music with funk, hip-hop, and R&B — and in doing so invented the modern brass band sound that now defines the city’s street music. Their Tuesday night residency at the Maple Leaf Bar has run for more than three decades. The Tremé neighborhood where they grew up is the same blocks where jazz was born a century earlier — the tradition didn’t die, it just got louder.
