Pass Christian Yacht Club — Second-Oldest in America

Founded in 1849, the Southern Yacht Club moved from Pass Christian to New Orleans, but its founding here makes Pass Christian one of the earliest organized yachting communities in the United States — alongside Mobile, Biloxi, Newport, and Detroit. Regattas along the Mississippi Sound were legendary before the Civil War interrupted them. The tradition continued through the resort coast era, and Pass Christian's harbor still hosts sailing.
