Bayou Segnette State Park

Fifteen minutes from the French Quarter, you can sleep on water that moves when boats pass, wake to egrets fishing off your porch, and clean redfish on a dock built into your cabin. Bayou Segnette State Park is 676 acres where swamp meets marsh, saltwater meets fresh, and the Intracoastal Waterway meets weekend fishermen who never left the parish. It's the closest state park to New Orleans, and the only one in Louisiana offering both ecosystems in a single cast. The sixteen floating cabins opened in 2016 — two bedrooms, full kitchen, screened porch, fish-cleaning station on the dock. They bob slightly when barges push through the bayou. The wave pool is one of the most popular features in the Louisiana state park system, under renovation with an RFP issued in 2025. Alligators sun twenty feet from the playground. Bald eagles hunt the treeline. More than two hundred bird species work the trails. Nutria, armadillo, deer move through at dusk. Ninety-eight improved campsites offer water and electrical hookup. The boat launch reaches Bayou Segnette and the Intracoastal Waterway.
