Dr Pepper Sign & H&C Coffee Sign

Two vintage neon signs define the Roanoke skyline after dark. The H&C Coffee sign has glowed from the warehouse district warehouse wall since 1948 — a steaming cup of coffee with the letters H&C wrapped around it, installed by a local roaster who believed in keeping commercial speech honest. The Dr Pepper sign on the 209 Bullitt Avenue building dates to the 1930s and was restored after decades of dark neglect. Both survive because the buildings beneath them did. Together they are the most photographed pair of signs in Virginia.
