Scarlet Pearl Casino — D'Iberville

The town carries the name of Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, who arrived in 1699 to establish a French colony at the mouth of the Mississippi River. Three hundred and sixteen years later, that town opened a $290 million casino resort off I-10. The juxtaposition is the Mississippi Gulf Coast in a single fact. Scarlet Pearl opened December 9, 2015, representing the post-Katrina generation of Gulf Coast gaming — land-based rather than floating. The project was originally named the Can Can Casino Resort and Spa and gained site approval from the Mississippi Gaming Commission in February 2010, but development stalled because of the Great Recession. Revised plans under the name Scarlet Pearl were approved by the commission in December 2013. Groundbreaking was held in July 2014. The property has 300 hotel rooms and 68,000 square feet of gaming space. A high limit area opened in late 2020. Amenities include a 36-hole miniature golf course, a buffet, three other restaurants, a swimming pool, and a fitness center. On October 1, 2019, the sportsbook took one of the largest bets in sports-betting history when it accepted Jim "Mattress Mack" Mcingvale's $3.5 million wager on the Houston Astros to win the 2019 World Series. Mcingvale wagered $6.2 million at the Scarlet Pearl over the course of October 2019, all on the Astros to win the World Series. The reason to go is that miniature golf course. Thirty-six holes means they built two full regulation mini-golf courses at a casino resort on the site of the first French colonial foothold in Louisiana. That's the Coast.
