The name comes from two finds: a flint Indian arrowhead turned up in the vineyard, and part of a flint stone ax was excavated at the winery site. "Pedernales" means flint in Spanish. The family — sixth-generation Texans — established the winery in 2005 on 145 oak-shaded acres in Stonewall, with Tempranillo at the center of their lineup.
