Kit Carson Park and Cemetery

The cemetery here dates to 1847, making it one of the older burial grounds in a region that had already been burying its dead — and its conflicts — for centuries. Kit Carson and his wife Maria Josefa Jaramillo Carson, who survived the Taos Revolt of 1847 and outlasted nearly every hardship the frontier could produce, are interred here, along with Governor Charles Bent, who did not. The park surrounding the cemetery hosts community events in summer.
