Harwood Museum of Art

Founded in 1923, the Harwood Museum of Art began as the town's only library before transforming into one of the Southwest's most significant art institutions. It holds a permanent collection spanning Hispanic traditions, the Taos Society of Artists, and the Taos Moderns — artists who made Taos a center of American modernism by the mid-20th century. The Agnes Martin Gallery, designed by the artist and gifted by her to the museum, is often compared to the Rothko Chapel. There is nothing else like it in the world.
