Cape Point (Cape Hatteras)

Where two currents collide off Hatteras Island, the offshore water turns dangerous and the fishing turns serious. Cape Point draws surf anglers chasing red drum in fall, Spanish mackerel in summer — the convergence of the Labrador Current and Gulf Stream creating the structure that makes this the most cited surf-fishing spot on the East Coast. You'll need a 4WD vehicle and an NPS ORV permit to reach it. Go anyway.
