Tree of Life (Kalaloch)

The erosion did the work: a small stream flowing from behind the tree carved away the ground beneath it until the roots hung in open air above a cave, and the tree floated. It's a Sitka spruce — the largest spruce species on earth — and by any structural logic it should have fallen long ago. The ground keeps eroding. The branches show signs of decline. Nobody knows when it goes. That uncertainty is the whole point of coming.
