Healy House and Dexter Cabin

The cabin looks like it shouldn't be what it is. From outside, Dexter Cabin reads as rough-hewn frontier; inside, it has been described as "surprisingly plush," "elegantly finished," and "incredibly ornate" — the private retreat of James V. Dexter, a mining investor. Next door, the Healy House was built in 1878, eventually operated as a boardinghouse, and now stands as a museum. Both sit within the Leadville Historic District, a National Historic Landmark, operated together by History Colorado.
