Aquinnah (Gay Head) Cliffs

The clay cliffs at the western tip of Martha's Vineyard rise to 150 feet and carry color the way almost no eastern coastline does — layers deposited by glacial retreat, exposed over millennia into something fossil-rich and unmistakably alive. This is Aquinnah, Wampanoag land, sacred and protected. You cannot climb the cliffs. You cannot take the clay. The tribe is still here, and the land is still theirs.
