State Street State Line

The state line between Tennessee and Virginia runs down the center of State Street in downtown Bristol. Marking that border since 1910 is the Bristol Virginia-Tennessee Slogan Sign -- originally 1,332 bulbs spelling out 'Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee, A Good Place to Live,' erected atop a hardware store by Bristol Gas and Electric Company and moved to span State Street in 1915. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The historical marker sits at the intersection of State Street and Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Two states, one street -- the division is literal, and it's been lit up and marked for over a century.
