Good forFamiliesHistory buffs
Two German immigrant miners, W.B. Krupp and J.A. Engle, discovered this Keystone mine in 1892 — originally named Gold Hill Lode — while chasing a neighboring vein that turned out, by 1907, to have narrowed to almost nothing. What they left behind is one of the safest surviving mines in Black Hills gold rush history, its adit cut through solid rock stable enough to walk without a hard hat. Tours still run. You can still pan. The gold rush didn't deliver for everyone; this mine at least delivered the tunnel.
