Hot Springs Historic Sandstone District

The buildings are the color of dried roses — locally quarried Fall River sandstone that gave Hot Springs, South Dakota its most enduring identity. More than forty of them went up between 1890 and 1915, collectively forming one of the more intact Victorian commercial districts in the region. The National Register of Historic Places recognized what the stone already made obvious: that this downtown survived largely as built, and that's reason enough to walk it.
